Continuing Education requirements for Maryland licensing renewals:
In 1998, the Maryland General Assembly passed new Mortgage Lending legislation that established a regulatory requirement that mandates continuing education credits for certain individuals working in the mortgage business. This new regulation went into effect on July 1, 2000.
Specifically, the regulation requires that “covered employees”, who are defined as the office manager and any other employee who has the authority to accept loan applications, or negotiate and advise borrowers regarding loan terms, satisfy the continuing education requirements during each licensing term.
In order to renew a license each covered employee of a licensee must successfully complete the continuing education requirements in approved courses and certify this fact under oath.
A detailed explanation of this regulation, including who is a covered employee along with a list of required courses can be found on the website of the Department of Licensing and Regulation at www.dllr.state.md.us/finance/mortlendac.htm.
